Great Lakes Dermatology is looking forward to a day outside celebrating National Cancer Survivors Day: Celebration of Life event June 2nd at Pennoyer Park (3601 7th Ave, Kenosha, WI). Stop by and talk to one of our providers or cosmetic specialists! We will be out enjoying the weather safely with our SPF on, you should too!
Great Lakes Dermatology will be at the Milwaukee County Zoo May 19th as a sponsor and active participant for the Ann’s Hope Foundation, Wisconsin’s first and only 501 (c)(3) not-for-profit foundation dedicated exclusively to Melanoma. This year’s event is being held in memory of Thomas Keel, Jr. and in honor of Barbara Zukauskas. Proceeds from this year’s event will fund melanoma research, education, and clinical trials. Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in the U.S., but it is also the most treatable if discovered early. Great Lakes Dermatology is dedicated to helping a cause that can have a solution.
Come in to our Mount Pleasant location at 7200 Washington Ave, STE 100 Racine WI 53406 on May 4th from 8:00am- 12:00pm for a free skin cancer screening. Walk-in’s welcomed!
The majority of skin cancers are caused by unprotected exposure to UV rays from the sun. According to the American Cancer Society about 76,690 people in 2013 will be diagnosed with melanoma, the most serious form of skin cancer. Skin cancer is one of the most treatable forms of cancer if detected early! Examining your own skin and keeping an eye on suspicious spots is a great form of early detection. It starts with you! Know your mole ABC’s. If you notice any changes in the (A) Asymmetry, the (B) Border, or the (C) Color, it is recommended that you see a dermatologist. Studies also show that many adults and adolescents do not regularly protect themselves while outdoors on sunny days with SPF or the appropriate attire. You don’t have to avoid sunlight, but it is wise to “slip, slop, slap and wrap. Slip on a shirt. Slop on sunscreen. Slap on a hat, and wrap on sunglasses to protect your eyes.” Make an appointment for the recommended annual skin check today and remember your sunscreen.
We will be at the Walk/Run of Kenosha on April 27th. This is the 25th anniversary of this event and will be held at the Kenosha Public Museum.
Look for us at the Relay for Life of Racine the weekend of June 7th at the Racine Zoo. This is an overnight event to fight cancer, while having fun and raising funds for cancer research, education, advocacy, and patient programs.
Help us fight back at the overnight Relay for Life of Brookfield July 12th at Brookfield East High School. Last year this event raised an amazing amount of $34,896.51 for the American Cancer Society. Let’s make this the 3rd straight year of surpassing our Relay for Life goals!
Bring the summer to a close by celebrating the lives of those who have been affected by cancer at the Relay for Life of Kenosha at UW-Parkside. This event kicks off with an inspirational survivor lap August 2nd and continues the whole night to help in the fight against cancer.

“100 years ago, the American Cancer Society started the fight of a lifetime. Together we can finish that fight. Let’s boldly join together to make this cancer’s last century.”

As a person ages, their collagen production begins to decline which leads to the breakdown of the skin’s underlying support structure. Daily exposure to UV rays and other environmental elements can cause the skin to become discolored and premature wrinkles may emerge. Treatments with the Matrix Fractional CO² laser will enhance the skin’s strength and elasticity. The skin will have a smoother, tighter texture and pigmentation problems will begin to diminish.
A safe, long lasting & effective treatment:
The Fractional CO2 treatment usually takes less than 30 minutes.
Treatment sensations vary from person to person. As tiny pulses of energy are delivered into the skin, most patients will experience a warm sharp feeling and an immediate tightening of the skin. Most patients look and feel like they have a mild sunburn for a few days after the treatment. Anesthetic ointments and cooling devices may be used to reduce any discomfort during and after the procedure.
